Naps! They can drive us crazy! Trying to figure out when and how long our child should be sleeping can get overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. For each age, there is an average of how long our children should be sleeping and how often. Sleep is so important to their health and development. Below is a guide to help take out the questioning some parents might have. Remember to always practice safe sleep practices and that every child is different.
0-3 Months- Total daytime sleep should be between 4-6 hours
Number of naps: 4-6
4-6 Months- Total daytime sleep should be between 3-4 hours
Number of naps: 3-4
7-13 Months- Total daytime sleep should be between 2-3 hours
Number of naps: 2
13-18 Months- Total daytime sleep should be between 2-3 hours
Number of naps: 1
18-24 Months- Total of daytime sleep should be between 2-3 hours
Number of naps: 1
24-36 Months- Total of daytime sleep should be between 1-2 hours
Number of naps: 1
We know life happens and different things can interrupt naps, so if your little one missed a nap, or nap time was cut short, ALWAYS put them to bed earlier. I suggest 15-30 minutes early because daytime sleep affects nighttime sleep. And who doesn't want a little more "me time"
